Fortress of Owls by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0061020087 Fortress of Owls by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0061020087

This makes up one third of the Fortress series by C.J. Cherryh, and it is just as good as the other two. It is an impressive tale of magic, romance, action and adventure told in vivid detail and imaginative prose.

Fortress in the Eye of Time by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0061056898 Fortress in the Eye of Time by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0061056898

This is a prequel story to what is perhaps Cherryh's best novel, Fortress of Eagles. It is early just as good and adds a lot of detail to the story which makes it all the more fantastic. Cherryh's writing is some of the best of the genre.

Fortress of Eagles by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 006105710X Fortress of Eagles by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 006105710X

This is a very exciting and wonderfully written fantasy fable that manages to resurrect the best parts of the ancient classics. Great characters, thrilling action, and even some believable romance make this a compelling novel.

Cyteen by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0446671274 Cyteen by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0446671274

This is an unusual novel by C.J. Cherryh because it abandons the fantasy themes found throughout his previous work in favor of more realistic and futuristic writing. This novel is more like a children's tale for an adult audience.

Hammerfall by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0061057096 Hammerfall by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0061057096

This is the first volume in a new fantasy series by C.J. Cherryh. It is comparable to the other fantasy novels Cherryh has written, except this one seems more mature and more fully developed.

Fortress of Dragons by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0061020443 Fortress of Dragons by C. J. Cherryh, ISBN 0061020443

This is one of the novels in the continuing saga of futuristic battle in a fantasy world filled with magic and superstition. Overall it is a very impressive story and Cherryh proves that he is one of the best writers of the genre.

Sphere by Michael Crichton, ISBN 0345353145 Sphere by Michael Crichton, ISBN 0345353145

I believe that this novel is comparable to the best of Michael Crichton's work, especially his later era science-fiction writing. It has some spectacular suspense throughout and is also quite thought-provoking.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, ISBN 0394588169 Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, ISBN 0394588169

I have read few novels in my life that are as genuinely terrifying as Jurassic Park, the masterpiece from Michael Crichton. What makes it so unusually effective is the central idea of bringing something from the past back into the future.

Prey by Michael Crichton, ISBN 0060536942 Prey by Michael Crichton, ISBN 0060536942

This is the latest suspense tale from acclaimed writer Michael Crichton, and it ranks among his best and most compelling work. With a story that is part supernatural and part science-fiction, Crichton manages to create an overwhelmingly suspenseful and expertly crafted novel.

The Terminal Man by Michael Crichton, ISBN 0060092572 The Terminal Man by Michael Crichton, ISBN 0060092572

This is, to say the least, one of the most unusual and bizarre novels I have had the pleasure to read. It is full of suspense and pervaded by a sense of awful dread which only Crichton would have the sense to inflict upon his readers.

Lord of Emperors by Guy Gavriel Kay, ISBN 0061020028 Lord of Emperors by Guy Gavriel Kay, ISBN 0061020028

This is a very good novel that strangely resembles Homer's great epic The Odyssey, albeit a more futuristic version of classical and historical writing. I enjoyed it immensely.

Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds, ISBN 0441009425 Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds, ISBN 0441009425

This is a wonderfully compelling suspense/science-fiction novel that is multi-layered and full of intrigue. I loved the story and Reynolds' writing illuminated the more complex scientific elements of the plot.

The Martians by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553574019 The Martians by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553574019

This is a great collection of stories from Kim Robinson, all of which are loosely tied together by a central story about the colonization of Mars. It is entirely fascinating and enjoyable to read.

Antarctica by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553574027 Antarctica by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553574027

This is somewhat of a unique novel in that it exists within its own genre, which I have dubbed the eco-thriller. It is a heavily environmentally cautious work that tries to make a point as much as it tries to entertain.

Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553560735 Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553560735

This is the final novel in what makes up a loose science-fiction trilogy by Kim Robinson, and one that has been compelling since the beginning. While I don't think it is the best, it is certainly on par with the quality of the others.

Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553572393 Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553572393

I enjoy Robinson's writing not only because of the thrilling and entertaining stories she weaves, but because she is unlike other sci-fi writers due to how she manages to inject human elements into even the strangest of stories. This is one of her best.

Blue Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553573357 Blue Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, ISBN 0553573357

This is one of the better science-fiction novels I have read in a while. Not only is it a very thrilling story, but it is grounded in actual science which makes it all the more believable.

The Icarus Hunt by Timothy Zahn, ISBN 0553573918 The Icarus Hunt by Timothy Zahn, ISBN 0553573918

This is a pretty unapologetic science-fiction novel, heavy on the science part. I had a hard time following it because of the immense detail Zahn describes, but it no doubt held my attention throughout.
