This film is a beuatiful work from Alice Walker's classic African American novel. It is hard to remember that Whoopi Goldberg used to do drama, as she has made such a career in comedy. It is beautifully done and very true to the original novel. |

This was Steve Spielberg's first seriously dramatic film, and it is a fine one at that. It is based on the novel by Alice Walker, set in the American south during slavery. It is powerful and moving, and the performance by Whoppi Goldberg is exceptional. One of the best films ever made on the subject of slavery. |

Usually when you see a show or hear a cast recording, you end up humming or singing some of the songs because they are so good. I hate to say it, but there are no songs on this CD that are catchy or even likeable. Such a big disappointment. |

Steven Spielbergs shows his talent as a great director in this moving movie The Color Purple, it's a touching story of black women and their stuggles and triumps. |

This movie was so good. It took me a while to watch the DVD but when I did, I finally understood the buzz that was generated around this movie. If you don't have it yet, go get it! |
