This is one of the most powerful, inspiring, and engaging autobiographical works I have ever read. Frederick Douglass narrates his life story in such superb detail and illuminating prose that one can not help but be absorbed by this great man's life and accomplishments. |

Aside from Douglass' extended autobiographical narrative, this is probably the best book to read to gain an appreciation for Douglass' life and perseverance. It is powerfully told and lingers in the mind long after it is read. |
